This photo album documents the group exhibition “The Artifact Labyrinth”, curated by the artist Jacob Hashimoto at Studio la Città. It is an in-depth exploration of the “artifact” – understood as a combination of materials, stories and symbols capable of redefining contemporary art. The exhibition explores the work of four international artists who reposition objects and memories within new narrative contexts.
Dave Kennedy transforms fragments of everyday life and salvaged objects into clones of fragile beauty, printed in low-fidelity, whilst Dave Hardy subverts the laws of physics by assembling urban debris, foam rubber and concrete into impossible sculptures supported by sheets of glass. Abbey Williams’ video collages layer images and personal diaries to create new and complex narrative sequences steeped in nostalgia, in perfect conceptual dialogue with the works of Elizabeth Moran, who analyses the history of fact-checking and news through archival microfilm to question our relationship with truth and time.
