This photo album brings together and documents Studio la Città’s exhibition season, which, between late 2014 and early 2015, saw the artistic languages of four artists intertwine.

The exhibition opens with the anthropological research of Australian artist Shaun Gladwell, who elevates urban subcultures and extreme sports such as BMX to a new form of ‘contemporary sublime’ through slow-motion video performances.

Matter takes centre stage with the American artist Emil Lukas, who presents his ethereal ‘thread paintings’: three-dimensional works created from a dense, polychromatic weave of fine silk threads that capture the light, blurring the boundaries between painting and sculpture.

The dialogue with art history, on the other hand, takes on a temporal and conceptual dimension in the works of the Japanese artist Hiroyuki Masuyama, renowned for his photographic layering techniques that superimpose his modern perspective onto the Romantic landscapes of Friedrich and Turner, distilling entire journeys into a fascinating circular continuity.

Finally, the album is enriched by the mystical and autobiographical dimension of Greta Rento, a young sculptor who blends art and design by handcrafting ancestral materials such as bronze, wood and Dolomite stone, to create installations made of light and fossils that celebrate the ritual nature of matter and time.
