Giant Arc, Jacob Hashimoto's new exhibition at MOMA/San Francisco

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is preparing to unveil the largest project of artist Jacob Hashimoto’s career. Opening on August 22, 2026, Giant Arc will transform the museum’s ground level into a breathtaking, architectural-scale dreamscape within the sprawling Roberts Family Gallery on Floor 1, inviting visitors to step directly beneath a monumental floating ecosystem.

Hashimoto is globally celebrated for his hypnotic environments that bridge the gap between traditional craft and contemporary sculpture. For this site-specific installation, the artist has engineered a sprawling canopy utilizing over 75,000 individual, hand-crafted elements.

Constructed from delicate Japanese paper and lightweight bamboo, the components take the form of miniature kites. Suspended in precise, complex formations, the massive assemblage behaves like a living cloud and the visual experience shifts as visitors navigate the space.
