Kevork Mourad, Studio la Città, 2022

This body of work was created in dialogue with the vision of Hélène de Franchis, whose belief in my practice led to our collaboration in 2022. The works shown at Studio la Città continue my ongoing exploration of home—how it moves with us, and how we carry it like a troubadour traveling with stories, songs, and memories.
These pieces are built with black-and-white cut-outs on cotton fabric, a visual language that allows me to peel away layers of time and place. Some works are composed in three translucent layers within plexiglass frames, echoing the way identity is formed through overlapping histories. In these layered constructions, I trace the contours of my childhood home in Aleppo—its rhythms, textures, and the spaces that shaped my earliest understanding of belonging.
By pitching these artworks like a symbolic tent in each new city, I imagine home not as a fixed location but as a living architecture we construct wherever we arrive. These works become portable sanctuaries—fragments of memory, culture, and resilience carried forward into new landscapes.
