Duff’s new works use tubular ceramics in relation to neon lights and ropes, elements he has often employed in other projects. The opportunity to experiment with a wide range of colors on ceramics, and to work this material in a more flexible way compared to others, has been for him an important and deeply satisfying challenge. After all, neither neon, ropes, embroidery thread, nor lasers could offer him the immense variety of chromatic possibilities and forms that ceramics have allowed.
The play of contrast between different materials makes each work particularly engaging from a compositional point of view.
