MINIMA X MAXIMA

“Seeing my exterior is easy: what color is my skin, my hair, my eyes? What is my body type? For this, I need a mirror. But it doesn’t help me see my interior. For that, I need another person to reflect it back to me,” he says. That person could, of course, also be a painter who lived and worked about 200 years ago—like Caspar David Friedrich.

Hiroyuki Masuyama shows a series of recent works, realized between 2011 and 2018. All works refer to the research of Space and Time: two important concepts for the artist who often tries to condense the macro and the microcosm on a single surface. The title of the exhibition wants to express this idea and is represented by a large-scale lightbox: Storm No.1 / after Leonardo da Vinci. The rest of the exhibition includes photographs and lightboxes of smaller dimensions, taken from the series: After Caspar David Friedrich and Google x 100.
