Vincenzo Castella's attitude towards the content of his work is profoundly different to that of other landscape photographers. His is an exploration that starts from the places he knows best: Naples and Milan, and then other sites in Europe and around the Mediterranean. Possible photographs, taken from viewpoints that anybody could find. In fact, Castelli does not especially privilege the eye. From his earliest works halfway through the 'seventies he has eliminated the narrating self, an important moment in his development towards rejecting subjectivity. Colour is a basic part of his work, even if at the moment of shooting his choices are not dictated by colour harmonies: he is, rather, attentive to details.
Buildings lie at the heart of his works about cities, which he began towards the end of the 'nineties. For him a city represents a language, and photography is an invention derived from it.
In such recent works as Cronache da Milano, realized together with the Multiplicity group and shown by Studio la Città in 2009 at Art Unlimited, he photographed buildings and places in Milan where crimes had taken place.
