Julia Mangold

Julia Mangold's metal constructions are variations on the theme of the rectangle. Her wall installations consist of one or more metallic elements that vary in shape and size from monolithic structures placed flush or edgeways to the wall, to voluminous cubes and rectangles. She playfully manipulates space, enclosing it in hollow containers, puncturing it with protruding elements, locking it away, and running metal plates in and out of the wall to increase its movement and dynamics. The work invites the viewer to move around its various facets in order to experience changes of dimension and space, and to enter into a dialogue with the objects on the wall. (see biography)
