Emil Lukas

Emil Lukas was born in Pittsburgh, U.S.A., in 1963. He lives and works in Stockertown.

However much each work of Lukas, such as his stacked columns, is a convincing whole, it is always a collection of various elements. Each element on its own is an extract from, or a single moment in a process begun somewhere else. This in turn sets off a chain of new reactions. Lukas's use of materials leftover from other works is a demonstration of this. Furthermore, the frequent presence of thread-like drawings made by insects covered with ink and pigments indicates the simultaneous presence of differing painting components, both regarding their conception and their compositional strategies and developments. In this way each "piece" of a work becomes a fragment in a process of development and growth. (see biography)
